First frost of the year

This morning was the first frost of the year. It was cold!

But it's the start of excellent landscape photography weather.

It's the key

A few weeks ago, Mim was wandering through the top paddock and found this key. It looks very old and is just a little too large for the front door (we don't have a key for it). It might belong to an original front door of the 1880 house. Who knows! Makes you wonder who the original owner of the key was, and how they happened to lose it.

Just when you think you've seen everything...

... something new comes along!

What a rip off!

We've been pricing ovens and cooktops with a view to replacing the crap that's in our current kitchen. We've decided that we want the same ones we had in Kedron. Bosch no longer make the cooktop but Michael found a similar one made by Miele, at a good price.

Whilst at Hardly Normal looking at this cooktop, Michael also looked at the Bosch side opening oven. Now bear in mind that we bought it for $1560 two years ago. That model has been 'superceded' by another one (which has exactly the same functions). Hardly Normal told us that RRP was $2300, but they could discount it to $2100 just for us (how kind of them!). I wanted to get more quotes, so I rang The Good Guys down in Warrnambool. I didn't even ask the best or cash price, just gave Richard the model number and he said "$1598". Now that's a saving of $500 from Hardly Normal's 'discounted' price!!!

Guess who we won't be buying the oven from!

The eco friendly way of doing dishes

In these times of drought we have decided to utilise an eco friendly dishwashing alternative. It uses less water than previous, because it eliminates the need to rinse before washing.

This alternative works well with sticky messy dishes, like tuna mornay or pasta bake - but for Christ sake, don't try it with a vindaloo!!! The side effects could be horrendous.

My New Toy has arrived!

I have finally bought myself a laptop and am enjoying playing with it. I'll be able to sit in front of the fire in winter and blog/play FarmTown rather than freezing the proverbials off in the study.

I also thought it would be useful for Caitlin to use to do homework when sitting at the hospital before her Karate lessons..... but for now, it's all MINE, MINE, MINE (as Stingy would say on LazyTown).

I got it for a good deal, on www.mln.com.au (thanks Dad for the tip). Would have paid a great deal more if I had bought it in Hamilton.
